| The
sites visited on this trip have been selected to maximise the number
of habitats visited in order to see a large number and variety of
excellent species.
- Laem
Pak Bia/Pak Thale is Thailand's premier shorebird site, the
wintering grounds of a large number of wetland birds including
the endangered Spoon-billed Sandpiper.
- Kaeng
Krachan contains some of the most intact and biodiverse forest
in Thailand and a number of lowland forest species can be found
here.
Day
1: A 5 am pickup from your hotel in Bangkok will see us
arriving at Pak Thale for about 7.15am and we will immediately target
Spoon-billed Sandpiper seeing species such as Long-toed Stint, Broad-billed
Sandpiper and Red-necked Stint as we search.
Most
of the day will be spent observing shorebirds and in the afternoon
a boat trip to the sand spit at Laem Pak Bia will reveal a number
of tern and gull species with the chance of views of "White-faced
Plover".
In
the evening we will look for nightjars before having dinner on the
beach and heading to our accommodation.
Day
2: After an early breakfast we will head straight for Ban
Krang campsite where we will spend the day walking along the trail
through some excellent forest. Woodpeckers, Broadbills, Hornbills
and many other impressive birds are commonly sighted in this vicinity
and we will have an excellent opportunity to find many of these
birds.
Late
in the afternoon we will do some birding on the road as we slowly
exit the park, where woodpeckers are common, before spotlighting
for Owls and Nightjars near our accommodation.
Day
3: Our final day will see us back at Ban Krang searching
for those key species that eluded us the previous day. If we have
not already found them birds like Brown Hornbill, Orange-breasted
Trogon, Great Slaty Woodpecker and Banded Broadbill will be targets,
and if we have already seen them there are many other species to
search for.
After
lunch we will move on to some nearby freshwater wetalnds where we
can find Baya Weaver, Pheasant-tailed Jacana, Black Kite, Long-tailed
Shrike and a whole host of other wetland and open-country birds
before heading back to Bangkok, arriving at about 9.30pm.
