28/02/11: On 27th February a Black-tailed Crake was seen at the campsite marsh on Doi Inthanon with 2 Ashy Woodpigeons on the summit on the same date; 5 Blossom-headed Parakeets were seen at the pre roost gathering at the foot of the mountain.

Highlights at Doi Ang Kang from 23-25th February included a pair of Spot-winged Grosbeaks at the old orchard army camp, 1 Black-headed Greenfinch at the Chinese Cemetary, 5 Black Breasted Thrushes, a Scaly Thrush & a Dark-sided Thrush at the restaurant at the King's Project plus 2 White-tailed Robins behind the mushroom farm at the King's project.

On 21st February an Oriental Scops Owl was present near the harrier roost at Yonok, Chiang Saen, and 80+ Pied Harriers along with 40+ Eastern Marsh Harriers came to roost.

At Chiang Saen Lake 2 Pintail, 3 Tufted Duck, a female Mandarin, 3 Garganey and 1 Eurasian Bittern were seen on 21st February.

Jerdon's Bushchat was seen at the paddy fields on Doi Lang on 20th February and White Gorgetted Flycatcher, 4 Black Throated Tits, 2 Crimson-breasted Woodpeckers and 4 Cutia were around or above the top checkpoint.

24/02/11: On 24th February 2 Slaty-bellied Tesias were seen on Km 34.5 trail, Doi Inthanon; a male Small Niltava on Km 37.5 trail; a Black-tailed Crake at the campsite at 6.05pm; 2 Black-backed Forktails at Km 13. - Nick Upton, Pierre & Bronwyn Hofmeyr, Chris & Wenda Redfern and Anne Irons.

A female Purple Cochoa was briefly seen along Km 34.5 trail, Doi Inthanon on 23rd February. - Nick Upton

At Doi Inthanon summit, on 23rd February, 2 Rufous-throated Partridges, a Grey-sided Thrush and a Eurasian Woodock were feeding in the bog; 2 Silver-breasted Broadbills were seen along Km 34.5 trail as was a male Asian Emerald Cuckoo. At Watcharitan waterfall a pair of Slaty-backed Forktails and a male Plumbeous Redstart performed well in the early morning.

On 22nd February a pair of Jerdons Bushchats were found at the rice paddies on Doi Lang and a male Rufous-gorgetted Flycatcher, female Himalayan Bluetail, a Red-faced Liochichla and 3 Spectacled Barwings were amongst the birds that came into the feeding station behind the second checkpoint, Doi Lang. A further 1 km along the road a female Rufous-gorgetted Flycatcher, a female Himalayan Bluetail and a White-gorgetted Flycatcher were seen at a photographers' stakeout.

A first winter male Sapphire Flycatcher was seen at Km 38, Doi Ang Kang, on 21st February, as was a Slender-billed Oriole. At Km 41 one male Mrs Hume's Pheasant was seen displaying to two females. At the Chinese cemetery a Pallas's Warbler and 6 White-browed Laughingthrushes were seen. On 20th February the following notable species were seen at Doi Ang Kang; 1 female Daurian Redstart at Ban Nor Lae army camp; 4 Black-headed Greenfinches, 30+ Common Rosefinches & 2 Little Buntings at the Chinese Cemetery; 1 female Rufous-bellied Niltava and 2 Red-faced Liocichlas at Km 21; 1 Scaly Thrush, 1 Dark-sided Thrush, 1 female Black-breasted Thrush & 1 male White-tailed Robin at the King's Project; 1 female Eurasian Sparrowhawk at Ban Koom.

Highlights of a day trip to Doi Inthanon on 19th February were a Grey-sided Thrush and a Dark-sided Thrush on the summit; 6 Red-billed Blue Magpies and a Black-headed Woodpecker at Km 11; 2 Black-backed Forktails at Km 13 and 6 Black-throated Parrotbills at Km 34.5. - Nick Upton, Lynn Lisenby & Tom Lisenby.

18/02/11: 7 Spoon-billed Sandpipers were seen at Pak Thale on 16th February; 1 subadult Heuglin's Gull and 1 Dunlin were also seen.

A female Giant Pitta was found between streams two and three, Kaeng Krachan, on 15th February. A single male Pin-tailed Parrotfinch was feeding on seeding bamboo at Km 36 and, on a fruiting tree at Km 35, an Eyebrowed Thrush, 2 Yellow-eared Spiderhunters, a single Grey-bellied Spiderhunter and 3 Great Hornbills were seen feeding.

14/02/11: 7 Spoon-billed Sandpipers, 1 Black-faced Spoonbill and 1 subadult Heuglin's Gull were seen at Pak Thale on 13th February; 2 Oriental Pratincoles were seen at nearby Wat Komnaram. Also on 13th, on salt pans at Laem Pak Bia, 5 Nordmann's Greenshank were seen and near the abandoned building 12 Pied Avocets were present. At Laem Pak Bia sand spit 2 White-faced Plovers, 2 Chinese Egrets, 56 Greater Crested Terns and 1 Lesser Crested Tern were the highlights. - Nick Upton, Lynn Lisenby & Tom Lisenby.

The outstanding bird of a three-day trip to Kaeng Krachan, on 9-11th February, was a female Giant Pitta seen between streams two and three. Other highlights included a male Blue Pitta, a Banded Broadbill, 6 Rusty-cheeked Hornbills, 1 Black-and-yellow Broadbill & 1 Crimson-winged Woodpecker all between streams two and three; 2 Great Slaty Woodpeckers and a small flock of Silver-breasted Broadbills between streams one and two; 3 Pin-tailed Parrotfinches at Km 36; 5 Yellow-vented Green Pigeons, 2 Wreathed Hornbills and a Great Hornbill in a fruiting tree at Km 34; 5 Long-tailed Broadbills, 2 White-hooded Babblers, 2 Ratchet-tailed Treepies and a Yellow-vented Green Pigeon at Km 28; 4 Great Slaty Woodpeckers at Km 9. - Nick Upton, Jacob & Blair Briggs.

At the buddliea viewpoint on Doi Lang a Fire-tailed Sunbird and Chestnut Buntign were seen on 9th February. Also at Doi Lang, on 8th, 4 Himalayan Bluetails and 2 White-gorgetted Flycatchers were seen near the second checkpoint.

Highlights from around Chiang Saen included 2 Long-billed Plovers, 8
River Lapwings and c 50 Small Pratincoles on the Mekong; 1 Chestnut-eared Bunting, 3 Red-throated Pipits, a Pied Harrier and Common Rosefinch at "Little England"; Siberian Rubythroat, Baikal Bush Warbler, Chinese Bush Warbler and Chestnut-crowned Bush Warbler at Nam Kam reserve's "Cettia hide"; over 250 Pied and Eastern Marsh Harriers plus c 1000 Red-throated
Pipits at Yonok wetlands.

08/02/11: At Tung Bang Jak raptor watch point 1 juvenile Steppe Eagle, 3 Greater Spotted Eagles, 1 juvenile Pied Harrier, 1 juvenile Eastern Marsh Harrier, 1 Peregrine, 8 Black Kites, 2 Brahminy Kites and 2 Black-shouldered Kites were seen from 4-5pm on 8th February. 100+ Red-throated Pipits and 5 Oriental Pratincoles were also seen. Other birds in the Tung Bang Jak area on the same date included 3 Cotton Pygmy Geese, 5 Grey-headed Lapwings, 4 Oriental Pratincoles and 1 Asian Golden Weaver.

On pools near Wat Khao Takrao, 1000+ Lesser Whistling Ducks and 4 adult Black-headed Ibises were found.

At Pak Thale only 1 Spoon-billed Sandpiper was seen on 8th February. On salt pans at Laem Pak Bia 14 Nordmanns Greenshank were seen on 8th February and at the rubbish tip the Brahminy Starling was seen at 7.30am. On the same date, on freshwater pools at Laem Pak Bia 10 Grey-headed Lapwings and 32 Painted Storks were seen.

On 7th February a Chestnut-winged Cuckoo was seen at Suan Luang, Bangkok. - Andy Howes.

3 Spoon-billed Sandpipers were seen at Pak Thale on 7th February. 5 Terek Sandpipers and 3 Dunlin were also seen. - Nick Upton, Jacob & Blair Briggs.

Close to the abandoned building, Laem Pak Bia, 22 Pied Avocets and 3 Asian Dowitchers were present on 7th February. - Ralph Parks, Nit Lawrence, Nick Upton, Jacob & Blair Briggs.

5 Ruddy Shelduck, 1 Pheasant-tailed Jacana and 34 Painted Storks were still present on freshwater pools at Laem Pak Bia on 7th February. At Laem Pak Bia sand spit 2 Chinese Egrets, a male and female White-faced Plover, 46 Great Crested Terns and 1 Lesser Crested Tern were of note on 7th February. - Nick Upton, Jacob & Blair Briggs.

On 6th February 4 Asian Dowitchers were found close to the abandoned building, Laem Pak Bia. - Khun Daeng, Ralph Parks, Nit Lawrence

Also on 6th February, in the early morning, the long-staying Brahminy Starling was seen at the rubbish tip, Laem Pak Bia. - Ralph Parks, Nit Lawrence

At Tung Bang Jak raptor watch point, on 6th February, 1 adult Steppe Eagle, 1 adult Greater Spotted Eagle, 2 juvenile Pied Harriers, 3 Black-shouldered Kites, 20+ Black Kites, 3 Brahminy Kites, 2 Eastern Marsh Harriers were seen between 3.30-5pm. 100+ Red-throated Pipits, 5 Oriental Pratincoles and 1 female Fulvous-breasted Woodpecker were also seen. Other birds in the Tung Bang Jak area included 2 White-browed Crakes, 14 Grey-headed Lapwings, 1 Cinnamon Bittern and 4 Asian Golden Weavers. - Nick Upton, Niall Hatch.

At 1pm an Imperial Eagle was also seen at Tung Bang Jak raptor watch point. Ralph Parks, Nit Lawrence.

At Khao Look Chang, on 6th February, 5 Black-headed Woodpeckers were seen. - Nick Upton, Niall Hatch.

1 male and 3 female Falcated Ducks were reported from Chiang Saen lake on 5th February. - Phil Round.

On 5th February 5 Spoon-billed Sandpipers and 2 Terek Sandpipers were present at Pak Thale. Also on 5th February 20+ Oriental Pratincoles & 2 Oriental Skylarks were seen at Wat Komnaram, Pak Thale. - Nick Upton, Niall Hatch, Ralph Parks & Nit Lawrence.

At freshwater pools, Laem Pak Bia district, 12 Painted Storks and 5 Ruddy Shelduck were seen on 5th February. On salt pans at Laem Pak Bia, 42 Nordmanns Greenshank were counted. - Nick Upton, Niall Hatch.

At Laem Pak Bia sandspit, on 5th February, 2 White-faced Plovers, 14 Great Crested Terns and 1 Lesser Crested Tern were noted. - Nick Upton, Niall Hatch, Ralph Parks & Nit Lawrence.

On 2nd February 7 Spoon-billed Sandpipers were seen at Pak Thale.

At Laem Pak Bia sandspit on 2nd February, 2 White-faced Plovers and 1 Chinese Egret were seen. On salt pans at Laem Pak Bia 2 Pied Avocets and 5 Nordmann's Greenshank were seen.

Highlights of a morning at Muang Boran Fishponds, on 1st February, included 2 Bluethroats, 1 Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler, 2 Watercock, 12 Cotton Pygmy Geese, 114 Pheasant-tailed Jacanas, 6 White-browed Crakes, 9 Oriental Pratincoles and 10+ Asian Golden Weavers, including 2 males in full breeding plumage. - Nick Upton & Andrew Twyman.
